Info about the Royal Palace:
The monumental complex of Caserta, situated north of Naples, stands as a masterpiece of 18th-century architecture. It was conceived during the latter half of the century by the renowned architect Luigi Vanvitelli, commissioned by Charles of Bourbon with the ambitious aim of rivalling the grandeur of the Palace of Versailles and Madrid.
This expansive complex encompasses the magnificent Royal Palace, meticulously designed gardens, and an extensive wooded park. Additionally, it includes the engineering marvel of the Carolino aqueduct and the San Leucio silk production complex, highlighting its architectural, artistic, and industrial significance.
At the heart of this grand architectural ensemble lies the Royal Palace, which serves as the central element of the entire design. Strategically aligned along a principal axis, the palace connects the various components of the complex both visually and functionally. This axis also incorporates a portico and a sophisticated system of fountains within the park, guiding the viewer’s gaze toward a breathtaking vista. The panorama ultimately culminates in cascading waterfalls, nourished by the waters of the Carolino aqueduct, creating a harmonious synthesis of artistic vision and engineering mastery.
