Great Pompeii Project

Great Pompeii Project

The European Union, in partnership with the Italian government, launched the Grande Progetto Pompeii (Great Pompeii Project), allocating 105 million euros for the restoration of the archaeological site of Pompeii with a target completion by December 2015, as outlined in Community Decision C (2012) 2154 of March 29, 2012. As a result, a significant part of the ancient Roman city has been restored and gradually made accessible to visitors. Our tour will take you through the most impressive restored areas and currently open to the public.

What makes our Pompeii tour so special ?

Our Pompeii guided tour stands out as truly unique, offering visitors exclusive access to recently restored houses and monuments that have remained closed to the public until now. Highlights include remarkable sites such as the House of the Vetti Brothers, the House of the Silver Wedding, and other notable landmarks that set this tour apart from the rest. Obviously, in certain conditions, to avoid crowds,  the guide might decide to show you alternative grand Roman dwellings.

During this 2-hour journey, you’ll explore some of the most captivating and historically significant aspects of the ruins. Discover the grandeur of the Thermal Baths, walk through the iconic Forum, marvel at the renowned plaster casts, and visit former patrician homes that have only recently been unveiled.

Few words about Pompeii

Pompeii was a middle-sized Roman town in the Italian region of Campania at the foot of Mount Vesuvius. Suddenly, after a long rest, the renowned volcano unleashed its destructive force  by erupting tons of ash into the air for 18 hours, which fell onto this ill-starred town, burying  its 20,000 citizens alive  with their homes and public  buildings. And  the next morning, when the Vesuvius’ cone exploded, it caused an avalanche of ash travelling to flood Pompeii. The Roman town has been entombed for centuries and only in modern times it was discovered and brought to light. The artifacts buried for two thousand years have been preserved for centuries because of the shortage of oxygen and humidity. Frescos, everyday objects, statues, public and private monuments of this amazing place  show us today an exceptional detailed cross-section of the Roman society during the I century a.d.
