Pompeii and Herculaneum guided tour

What makes this tour special?

This Herculaneum and Pompeii private tour maximizes the quality of the visit because it is led by an archaeologist (or an art historian), but at the same time, costs are reduced because the private car with driver is eliminated: the Circumvesuviana public train will take us from Herculaneum to Pompeii.

This tour offers two hours in Herculaneum that will provide ample time to discover its fascinating ruins. In addition we’ll have three hours to explore the main highlights of Pompeii, including the Forum (main square), the plaster casts, some of the patrician houses, the Thermal Baths, the bakery, the Termopolium, and more.

This tour is designed to cater to your preferences. We offer maximum flexibility—simply let us know which buildings in Pompeii  and Herculaneum you’d like to explore, and we will tailor your guided tour to match your interests.

Itinerary of this tour

Itinerary of this tour

  • Meeting point will be at the ticket office of Herculaneum ruins. We’ll be holding a sign with your name on it.
  • First, the itinerary includes a two-hour guided tour of Herculaneum with us.
  • After that, we’ll walk to the train station of Herculaneum for a transfer from Herculaneum to Pompeii via public train on the Circumvesuviana line. The train ride takes about 30 minutes, followed by a 10-minute walk to reach the Pompeii ruins. While trains are generally manageable, please note that they can sometimes be crowded, requiring us to stand during the journey.
  • Then there will be a 30-minute break for a snack or a slice of pizza at one of the small restaurants or bars near the archaeological site.
  • In Pompeii, we’ll continue for our three-hour guided tour.
  • We’ll conclude our tour at “Pompei Villa dei Misteri” train station.
  • We’ll assist you in purchasing train tickets and provide any additional information you may need to reach your accommodation before concluding the tour.

Why is this Herculaneum-Pompeii tour your ideal choice ?

This combination is truly captivating. Pompeii leaves an unforgettable impression on its visitors. Once a thriving town, it was buried under ash and debris during the AD 79 eruption of Mt. Vesuvius and remained hidden for centuries. It wasn’t until the eighteenth century that excavations began, uncovering remarkable Roman treasures that continue to surface to this day. On the tour, you’ll have the chance to explore intricately adorned public and private buildings.
Herculaneum, with its narrow streets, shops, and beautifully preserved frescoed homes, is often considered even better preserved than Pompeii. In fact, unlike its more famous counterpart, even wooden objects have survived in Herculaneum. However, this Vesuvian city is undeservedly less renowned.
