Pompeii guided tour

What makes the visit of our tour guide in Pompeii so special?

You will be accompanied by a private tour guide, an expert archaeologist or art historian, fluent in English, who will lead you along the most fascinating routes through the incredible ruins while helping you to avoid the crowds. We will also assist you with purchasing entrance tickets.

Pompeii is undoubtedly a must-visit destination for  two compelling reasons. First, it is the only place in the world where an entire Roman city has been preserved remarkably intact for over two millennia. Second, its extraordinary state of conservation is the result of the tragic AD 79 eruption of Mount Vesuvius, which buried the city beneath layers of ash and pumice. Thanks to this unique preservation, (we have uncovered) statues, frescoes, everyday objects, and countless other fascinating artifacts have survived, offering an unparalleled glimpse into ancient Roman life.
Our Pompeii tour offers a unique and exceptional itinerary, giving you the rare opportunity to discover the world’s oldest surviving Roman arena.

Why is our Pompeii tour so unique?

Walking through the streets of Pompeii evokes a profound and almost indescribable sense of emotion. You find yourself transported back to a  1st century Roman town, and are completely immersed in its history. The remarkably well-preserved monuments  throughout the site intensify this feeling to the point that in those rare moments when no other visitors are in sight, it feels as if an ancient resident, clad in a traditional tunic, might step out from one of the neighbouring houses at any moment.

As you reach the panoramic viewpoint overlooking Pompeii, an immense expanse of the ancient city unfolds before you: over 160 acres of homes, temples, streets and public buildings, with countless more still waiting to be unearthed and explored.

The people of Pompeii were caught off guard by the deadly mix of toxic gases and pumice stones, leaving them preserved in their final moments of life for over two thousand years. For this reason, the evocative plaster casts leave a deep impression on every visitor.

It is easy to understand why Pompeii is considered a paradise for archaeologists, historians, and anyone with a passion for the Roman world.

A brief History of Pompeii:

Mount Vesuvius had remained inactive for centuries until the early hours of August 24, 79 AD, when it unexpectedly erupted, spewing massive clouds of scorching ash and unleashing a torrent of pumice stones that rained down upon the heavily populated region at its base.

The city of Pompeii lay buried beneath ashes, concealed for seventeen centuries. Most of its inhabitants perished, and the tranquil life of the town was frozen in time at the moment disaster struck.

During the sixteenth century, amidst land reclamation efforts in the Sarno River valley, the architect Domenico Fontana uncovered inscriptions and remnants of an ancient structure. However, it was not until 1748, under the reign of Charles of Bourbon, that systematic excavations truly began.
