    Tour Description

    What makes this tour special?

For the first time, visitors with limited mobility (wheelchairs) can follow a route specifically designed for their needs, thanks to the “Pompeii for All”, a project launched in 2016. This route starts from Piazza Anfiteatro and ends in Piazza Esedra.

This disabled-accessible tour of Pompeii lasts four hours and includes, among other things, the new excavations currently underway in Regio IX.

This tour is private and therefore allows great flexibility regarding the day and start time of the tour.

During the tour, among other things, you’ll visit two buildings currently being excavated: the “House of the Chaste Lovers” and the “House of the Painters at Work.”

The “House of the Chaste Lovers” is located on the north side of the “Via dell’Abbondanza” and was excavated in 1987. The excavation of this building is part of a much larger excavation that encompasses much of the southern end of Regio IX, Insula 12, including the adjacent “House of the Painters at Work” to the north. The house takes its name from a fresco in the “triclinium” (dining room) of a celebrating couple engaged in a rather shy kiss. The building was a mixed-use building, consisting of a bakery and an adjoining residential area.

The “House of the Painters at Work” (Regio IX, Insula 12) in Pompeii is an extraordinary recent discovery, where restoration work was abruptly interrupted in 79 AD. It was an active construction site where tools, lime and unfinished frescoes have been found, offering a unique insight into Roman construction and artistic techniques.
