Pompeii and Herculaneum guided tour
What makes this tour special?
This Pompeii and Herculaneum private tour maximizes the quality of the visit because it is led by an archaeologist, but at the same time, costs are reduced because the private car with driver is eliminated: the Circumvesuviana public train will take us from Pompeii to Herculaneum.
This tour offers three hours to explore the main highlights of Pompeii, including the Forum (main square), the plaster casts, some of the patrician houses, the Thermal Baths, the bakery, the Termopolium, and more. Following that, two hours in Herculaneum will provide ample time to discover its fascinating ruins.
This tour is designed to cater to your preferences. We offer maximum flexibility—simply let us know which buildings in Pompeii you’d like to explore, and we will tailor your guided tour to match your interests.
Why is this Herculaneum tour your ideal choice ?
This combination is truly captivating. Pompeii leaves an unforgettable impression on its visitors. Once a thriving town, it was buried under ash and debris during the AD 79 eruption of Mt. Vesuvius and remained hidden for centuries. It wasn’t until the eighteenth century that excavations began, uncovering remarkable Roman treasures that continue to surface to this day. On the tour, you’ll have the chance to explore intricately adorned public and private buildings.
Herculaneum, with its narrow streets, shops, and beautifully preserved frescoed homes, is often considered even better preserved than Pompeii. In fact, unlike its more famous counterpart, even wooden objects have survived in Herculaneum. However, this Vesuvian city is undeservedly less renowned.
More details about this tour:
We will meet in Pompeii at Bar Sgambati, located near the Pompei Villa dei Misteri railway station. I will be holding a sign with your name on it for easy identification. This private guided tour of Pompeii is planned to last approximately 3 hours. Following the tour, we’ll take a one-hour break to enjoy either pizza or a snack (not included) in the area near the ruins. From there, we’ll head to Herculaneum by train, which includes a 30-minute ride followed by a 10-minute walk to the archaeological site. After exploring Herculaneum, the tour will conclude at the Herculaneum Circumvesuviana train station. I’ll assist you with purchasing your train tickets and provide all the necessary information to help you reach your accommodation.
**For Pompeii tickets, we help you buy them online to avoid long lines.
*** It is important to bring your passports with you, together with the tickets.
IMPORTANT: Wearing comfortable shoes is recommended since the tour is conducted entirely on foot.
Following my three-hour visit to Pompeii, we’ll take the Circumvesuviana public train to reach Herculaneum. Generally, this service runs smoothly, but if the train happens to be crowded, we might need to stand during the ride.
N.B.: Train tickets and entrance fees are not included.
