Meet your private English-speaking guide, a professional archaeologist (or art historian), near the Sgambati Bar, located close to the “Porta Marina Superiore” entrance in Pompeii. Your guide will be waiting for you, holding a sign with your name for easy recognition. Together, you’ll embark on an engaging four-hour exploration of Pompeii’s historic wonders. During the tour, you will have the chance to enter ongoing archaeological digs of the Regio IX.
The “House of the Chaste Lovers” and “The House of the Painters at Work”
The “House of the Chaste Lovers” is located in Regio IX (Insula 12, number 6) of the Pompeii archaeological site, along the famous Via dell’Abbondanza. It takes its name from a refined fresco in a dining room (“triclinium”) depicting two lovers seated at a banquet, and it is renowned for its adjoining production complex and the recent excavations of the entire “insula” .
The “House of the Painters at Work” is located in Regio IX (Insula 12, number 9) of the Pompeii excavations, next to the famous “House of the Chaste Lovers”. It owes its name to the fact that, at the time of the eruption in 79 AD, the “domus” was undergoing renovation work: the workmen had left behind tools, buckets of lime, and walls that were either partially decorated or painted in solid colors.
